Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, and Almond Oil
We pride ourselves on using only pure and natural ingredients to create our foot soaks. We believe in using high-quality ingredients and we don’t man-made fragrances. Among other ingredients, our foot soaks contain rich oils that are incredibly emollient for the skin. We want our guests to be nourished and cared for on all levels and using oils that are hydrating give the feet and legs that revitalized feeling our guests crave. So, what are the decadent oils that we use in our foot soaks? We use coconut oil, avocado oil, and sweet almond oil. Hands down, these oils are the best at moisturizing and adding overall nourishment to the skin on a deep level. There are probably close to a million uses for each. Well–that may be an exaggeration but they can be used for anything from teeth whitening, eye make-up remover, hair masks, (use caution when using coconut oil in your hair, this article will explain why) or treating cuts and scrapes. They all have healing properties when used on skin ailments. These oils have an array of vitamins and fats that our skin needs that make for quick repair of skin cells. They have been known to alleviate symptoms of psoriasis, eczema, stretch marks, and wrinkles.
So what are the differences among these three oils? Here we focus mostly on how it affects the skin.
Coconut oil is a 4 on the comedogenic scale. It is highly moisturizing but slow to absorb into the skin. There is a higher chance of clogging pores, so use caution if using on the face as a cleanser or moisturizer. Coconut oil has an aromatic scent of coconut while sweet almond and avocado don’t have a scent. Coconut oil is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal while the other two oils are not. Bonus fact: in spiritual practice, it is said that coconut oil can strengthen your confidence.
Avocado oil has a higher percentage of monounsaturated fats than almond oil. This helps it penetrate the skin more deeply. It has a low risk of clogging pores but could irritate sensitive skin. If you have a latex allergy use caution when using avocado oil as people with this allergy can find themselves sensitive to avocado oil. Bonus fact: in spiritual practice, avocado oil is thought to bring wealth, long life, and happiness.
Almond oil is a 2 on the comedogenic scale. This is the best choice for sensitive skin and also the least moisturizing. It is available in bitter and sweet varieties. We use sweet in our soaks as the bitter contains trace amounts of cyanide. Compared to avocado oil, sweet almond is slightly more balanced on nutritional content. For those with nut allergies, you should avoid using almond oil. Bonus fact: in spiritual practice, it is thought that almond oil will help to attract money and good fortune when added to incense.
The bottom line is that all of these oils have incredible benefits for your skin and overall internal health. When choosing an oil to use for your self-care regimen, It boils down to your preference and how it will affect your skin.
