Living With Gratitude
The spirit of gratitude is something we embody and cherish here at Wake. As we enter into the holiday season, it can be very easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of our never ending to-do lists. It’s easy to get swept away in all the emotion and stress that can accumulate so quickly. But the whole point of the holiday season is to embody the spirit of giving and showing our loved ones how much they are loved and cherished. It is also about giving thanks for what we already have present in our lives and remembering the feelings of gratitude every single day.
Living with gratitude every single day puts things into perspective when life gets crazy. It’s a beautiful reminder of the blessings that are in our lives. When we focus on these, life will take on a whole new meaning. We tend to focus on what is not going right. So we, at Wake, invite you to take a new perspective and view your life from behind the lense of gratitude. Living each and every day from this space, can lessen the burdens of whatever life hands us and reminds us that joy is always available to us if we choose to see it.
So how can you create a living gratitude practice? Here are some little nuggets that you can add to your day.
- Before you start your day, make a list all of the things that you are grateful for in your life. We invite you to think beyond family and health. Look at each area of your life and focus on the little things that make you happy. Your morning coffee, the sheets on your bed, your mobility, eyesight. Be specific. Read your list and focus on how it feels to have these things available to you. Sit in those feelings for at least 5 minutes.
- As you go about your day, look for things that bring you joy. Pay extra attention to these things and give thanks to them for showing up in your life. We are often too busy rushing through the day that we forget the little things that can bring us amazing happiness. Commit to reconnect with those things.
- Tell the people in your life how much they mean to you. Practicing gratitude opens up opportunities to connect with the people you care about in a deeper way. With social media, texting, technology overload, real and meaningful connections tend to get overlooked.
- End your day on the same note of gratitude. Before you drift off to sleep, review your day and notice all of the little moments, conversations, and realizations and give thanks to all of them. You will end your day on a positive vibe and you will sleep sounder.
We at Wake give thanks to everyone who walks through our doors. We give thanks for the opportunity to serve and hold space for our guests in a way that can create peace in an otherwise hectic, topsy-turvy world. Thank you for making coming to work every day a pleasure.
