Oh February! A time for amping up the self care and treating yourself and a loved one to a night out on the town. We are big advocates of those activities all year long but there is something about February that brings to mind all the ways we can celebrate love. We welcome many guests who choose to come to Wake on a date and we cherish witnessing the love between couples while soaking. We even have a package named after it, called the Date Night!
We love that we are considered a must-do date night spot in Asheville but we want to explore other ways to enjoy the company of your loved one in and around this town. As you walk down the streets of downtown Asheville, there is a hint of coziness in the air that makes many places and experiences the perfect setting for a date night. So get ready to take notes as we explore a few of the spots that Asheville has to offer that will make your next date night one to remember. We asked a few locals what their favorite date night excursions are and here are some of their recommendations.
Who doesn’t love Tacos? Tacos paired with a movie is even better! With two hot spots that offer Tuesday specials, you can go to Mamacita’s on Tuesdays for Taco Tuesdays followed by a $5 movie at the Fine Arts Theater.
If the wine and chocolate combination is your thing, you can head to Walnut 5 for a glass or two. They offer a nice selection in a small intimate atmosphere where you can sip wine and cozy up to your loved one. Afterwards, go indulge in some gourmet chocolate at the French Broad Chocolate Lounge or the Chocolate Fetish. Both places serve ridiculously delicious chocolates and truffles that are to die for.
An off-the-beaten-path option is starting off your evening with some tea at the cozy Dobra Tea Room in West Asheville and then ending the evening with a massage at the Asheville School of Massage and Yoga. The school allows their students to practice their craft and you get to benefit with a full body massage that will leave you feeling at peace and totally relaxed.
If you like jazz, Little Jumbo has free weekly jazz performances on Monday nights. Cozy up in a booth and order light bites paired with classic cocktails as you take in the speakeasy vibe in this spot just outside downtown.
What is better than pastries and a sunset? If you want to feel like you’ve been whisked away to a small European cafe, then Old Europe is the place to be. Delicious pastry at Old Europe with a glass of prosecco is a perfect prelude to an Appalachian sunset at The Montford Bar. At this beautiful rooftop bar located inside the Hyatt Place, you can order light bites and indulge in a selection of craft cocktails, whiskeys, and scotch as well as non-alcoholic beverages. Who says having dessert first is taboo?
If the weather is nice, there is always a short hike to Craggy Gardens just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Pack a picnic lunch or dinner and enjoy the panoramic views with plenty of room to spread out and relax in nature.
A little friendly competition never hurt anyone, so if playing games is more your speed, (we mean the board game kind.) then Well Played Board Game Cafe might be your jam. Located on Wall Street, downtown, this fun little spot has hundreds of games with unlimited playing time for just $5 or $7 on Saturdays. There is also a yummy variety of snacks and beverages so you don’t go hungry while playing your favorite games.
If creating art ignites your passion, then Painting with a Twist will do that trick. Painting with a Twist makes date night fun. You can bring your favorite beverage and snacks and enjoy creating a work of art with your sweetheart.
There is so much to do in Asheville and this is only a brief highlight of the possibilities that are available to all fun loving romantics at heart. We hope you take some time to celebrate all those you love this February and all year round. We would love to hear from you and what your favorite date night ideas are in this beautiful Appalachian town.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
