We have been so excited to become a retail partner for the Trudon brand in recent months and wanted to share a bit more knowledge behind the company and what makes it so incredibly special. We talked to Trudon Insider and Brand Representative, Brandon Navarro about what brought him to the brand as well as several things that were particularly intriguing about the histories and origins of Trudon.
I had worked as a business & department manager for many cutting edge brands across the beauty and fragrance industries for many years. I had come across the Trudon brand in a Barney’s in the mid 2000s and the visual, packaging, and fragrance components were absolutely incredible. I’ve had an affinity for the brand ever since so it was an instant fit when I saw that the brand was hiring.
Every aspect of each new product concept development and roll out is meticulously crafted and executed to align with Trudon’s aesthetic and standards. As the oldest candle company in the world, they truly bring old world know-how into the modern age with time tested and thoughtful attention to detail. Trudon has also received the highest honor and seal of manufacturing in France, the Living Heritage seal. This award and its symbol represent the highest caliber of industrial skills and exceptional know-how.
Trudon puts tremendous emphasis on the research and development for their perfumes, with a dedicated laboratory in their Normandy production facilities. It is also so important
that they maintain consistency with their burn quality and time standards, so much so that they have crafted unique organic cotton wicks not only for each size candle, but
each individual variety within each size. The variation of oil composition changes burn time, therefore the wicks have to be crafted and calibrated specifically for each blend to maintain consistency.
Perfume is an important product line for Trudon, and began with the launch in 2017 with five perfumes. A year later, one of the fragrances, Bruma, won a Fragrance Foundation Award, a testament to their caliber within this extremely competitive sector. Trudon is working with the most established and awarded perfumers to create their signature scents with more creations slated for development.
In 1643, Claude Trudon began selling candles, unscented tapers, as one of the first varieties at his store in Paris. The early success and quality led them to become the
official candle of the Royal Court, under Louis XV in 1811. The Carrière brothers succeeded the Trudon family as owners of the Trudon brand, utilizing their love of botanicals with the introduction of scented candles. With the emergence of electricity and a reduction in the requirement for candle illumination, the brothers creatively pivoted into fragrance based candles. In 1889, they won a Gold Medal for this innovation at the World Exposition.
Another interesting fact is that in 2018, Trudon partnered with the Orne Dark Bee Conservatory to help to protect the indigenous species of European dark bees. The partnership has been reflective of Cire Trudon’s motto since 1643: “Deo regique laborant,” or “They (the bees) work for God and the King.”
We are so excited for our Foot Sanctuary guests to experience the luxurious scents and amazing quality of Trudon at Wake Foot Sanctuary. We can’t wait for you to stop in and indulge in the experience!
