It’s pink, the aroma is intoxicating, and it’s a hit around here at Wake. (The Hit Refresh foot soak to be exact!) We’ve been known to pair it with pink rose clay and bubbles. What could be better? What are we talking about? Pink Grapefruit essential oil! It’s one of our favorites around the sanctuary as it instantly uplifts our moods and makes us want to break out into a dance party. Besides its bright, sweet citrus aroma, it has an array of benefits for the skin and spirit.
But first, where does pink grapefruit essential oil come from? It comes from the peels of pink grapefruit. It is cold pressed to produce the oil and is used in a variety of cosmetics, culinary products and health supplements. Some fun facts: the essential oil of any citrus fruit lives in the peel, not the fruit itself. Another fun fact is the pink grapefruit is thought to be a hybrid between the pomelo and the sweet orange. This well known hybrid’s cultivation dates back to eighteenth century Jamaica. The name grapefruit came from the way the fruit grows on the tree, in a cluster like grapes!
Now back to Pink Grapefruit essential oil and why we love it so much!
It contains compounds such as limonene, myrcene, terpinene, and cirtonellol. These assist in processing the nutrients your body needs to perform at its best.
Pink Grapefruit essential oil’s lymphatic properties have been known to strengthen the immune system thus helping to defend you against illness.
This skin-loving oil also has antiseptic and detoxifying qualities. This means it efficiently absorbs nutrients into your skin, especially problem areas, while promoting cell rejuvenation and turnover. Pink Grapefruit essential oil also absorbs oils that are bad for your skin, thus balancing your tone and evening complexion. It can help to clean and clear your skin of blemishes, dark spots and acne as well.
Pink Grapefruit essential oil is an antioxidant due to its high levels of vitamin C which is also a friend to your skin. Use caution in using undiluted grapefruit oil directly on the skin as it may cause sensitivity to the sun.
Other benefits of Pink Grapefruit essential oil include:
If you are an essential oil enthusiast and love to concoct aromatherapy combinations, pink grapefruit pairs well with geranium, lavender, rosemary, and fennel along with any citrus essential oils. In our Hit Refresh and Getaway blends we use, fennel, rosemary and pink grapefruit essential oils which enhances the depth of the pink grapefruit making it a sweet and uplifting scent. Pink Grapefruit is also available in our Local Wednesday blend, Bird of Paradise where we use lavender and tangerine. No coincidence here in the name, as the botanical name of grapefruit means “fruit of paradise”!
Speaking of aromatherapy, which we highly value here in the sanctuary, inhaling the aroma of grapefruit essential oil (or absorbing pink grapefruit essential oil through the skin, like through our foot soaks), is thought to transmit messages to a brain region involved in controlling emotions. So, it’s known to relax and calm the nervous system while also evoking feelings of well-being and rejuvenation.
If you aren’t already convinced of the benefits of pink grapefruit we encourage you to stop by the shop for one of our pink grapefruit soaks! Our guest experience specialists will help you choose the one that is right for you.
As always, consult your doctor before adding this or any other essential oil into your health regimen. It is recommended to dilute any essential oil with a carrier oil due to their potency. Finally, be sure to seek out the highest quality oil and do your research before using this or any oil in your health regimen.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
