This edition of Portrait of a Foot Soaker just happens to be one of our amazing makers as well!!! While Mallory has been a foot soaker to Wake Foot Sanctuary for years now, the company that she formed with her best friend Tyler, called Goats n’ Bubbles, is a newer addition to our shop following her love of body care and desire for better products.
The best spa in Asheville has the best guests and makers anywhere and we are always so proud to talk to them and learn more about their passions. We were excited to talk to Mallory and take a peek behind the curtain of her new company, but also learn more about her tips for balance as a homeschool mom in our community!
1) What was your inspiration for learning how to make soap and when did you learn?
Our families struggle with skin issues. Tyler’s family battles eczema, while my family deals with sensitive skin. When we looked up soap on the FDA website, we found it focuses on synthetic detergents. We wanted something safe and all-natural instead. This inspired us to learn more about soap making. We dove into online research and bought books on the topic. Now, we’re excited to create our own soap that’s gentle and good for our skin.
2) You formed this business with one of your best friends, tell me about how the company came about? And how did you choose the name?
After 23 years of friendship, my best friend Tyler and I decided to start a business together. She brings her expertise as a large animal vet tech and her love for goats, while I contribute my administrative skills. With a passion for natural products and a strong desire to support our families and local community, we launched a goat milk soap business. Our venture not only allows us to share the benefits of goat milk but also fosters a sense of connection and support within our community.
The name Goats n’ Bubbles Soap Company is simply the result of trial and error of names that are unique but also relevant to our products. Our primary ingredient is goat milk. It is the first ingredient listed in most of our products followed by beef tallow. We wanted to use it in the name along with something that makes people think of baths, showers, feeling clean, and that’s how we settled on the bubbles portion.
3) What attracted you to goats milk as a feature in so many of your products?
Recent studies highlight the beneficial properties of goat milk for skin care, noting its ability to moisturize, exfoliate, and nourish skin without disrupting the natural pH balance. This makes goat milk particularly suitable for individuals with sensitive skin. Its gentle formulation can help alleviate symptoms associated with conditions like eczema and psoriasis, offering a soothing effect. The rich nutrients present in goat milk not only support skin health but also promote a balanced complexion, making it a valuable option for sensitive skin treatments. And let’s face it, goats are adorable, how can you resist them?!
4) You have an amazing tallow cream as well, tell us about its properties and what inspired you to make it.
Tallow is one of the most traditional ingredients used in soap-making, and we sought to expand its use into other products. For those unfamiliar, tallow is rendered animal fat, and we specifically use 100% grass-fed beef tallow in our formulations. This natural ingredient is rich in amino acids, which can enhance the moisturizing properties of various products. By incorporating tallow, we aim to create high-quality products that benefit from its time-honored qualities, promoting both tradition and modern application.
5) What do you want people to know about your brand?
We are committed to transparency. We want consumers to know that our brand prioritizes honesty and intention in every step of our process. We meticulously select clean sources and high-quality ingredients to create products that are not only safe but also beneficial for skin health.
6) You are a homeschooling mom of two also! What are some of the synergies of entrepreneurship for you and homeschooling?
Entrepreneurship and homeschooling share many similarities, especially in how they require good time management and effort. Both involve making plans and staying organized to achieve goals. They can also be exciting journeys, filled with opportunities for learning and creativity. Just like entrepreneurs create new ideas, homeschooling encourages kids to think outside the box and explore topics in depth. Ultimately, both paths help build skills that are valuable in life while fostering a love for learning and exploration.
7) What do you do to help balance your work with Goats n’ Bubbles and all of your other roles as a mom, wife, and leadership team member? What are some relaxation practices you have at home?
Relaxation? What is that?! Honestly, there are multiple things I do on the daily to try and keep myself in a calm state. Walking at least 3-5 times a week really helps my mood and sleep, I am a caffeine free person, so I love a great herbal tea before bed, especially those that include lavender or peppermint, and I love to knit! I have been knitting since I was 18 years old. I usually knit after getting the kids to bed and it just helps me relax at the end of a long day.
8) You have been a Wake Foot Sanctuary soaker for years now. What is your favorite relaxation combo at the spa?
My favorite relaxation combo at the spa is the Signature Soothe Soak and the head, neck, and shoulder massage. The combination of the lavender and tea tree…I cannot put into words what that combination does for me, it is truly magical.
