How Do I Cultivate More Self Love?

When we think of the qualities that Wake truly embodies, the word love comes to mind. For our employees love at Wake means love for our employees, love for our guests, and love for the work that we do. Our hearts and souls are poured into each soak, each service, and each way that we make Wake a place to relax, rejuvenate and help our guests feel totally nourished. But what about self-love? Many of us who serve others, either in our personal lives or through our profession, often forget to treat ourselves with that same love and care. It’s so easy to do and care for others that our own needs get neglected. Take care of yourself first, then you are able to fully show up for others. Self-love also creates opportunities to experience more love, joy, and happiness in your life. It is usually what we practice with commitment that is reflected back to us.

To celebrate the month of love, we wanted to share with you 4 ways you can cultivate more self-love in your life. In this blog, we will go beyond the bubble baths, mani/pedis, and massages. Read on to find out what we are talking about.

First and foremost, set the intention to love yourself more.

Yes, it is that simple. You can’t begin any kind of new practice without first setting the intention to do it. Commit to loving all parts of you–even the parts you don’t like much. Make that commitment and stick to it. Whenever you feel yourself slipping, you can simply say or think this mantra: “I now love and approve myself” or “I now cultivateself-lovee and I love and approve myself.” Mantras like these are wonderful effective ways to begin to change your thoughts around to cultivate more self-love.

Quiet the negative self talk.

We all experience this. Those pesky thoughts that tell us we aren’t good enough or not deserving. Pay attention to your thoughts and the inner critic that can sometimes take up real estate in your mind. When you buy into these thoughts and make them truths it can reflect in your outer world. Whenever you feel judgments creep in just observe them. Then imagine them in a balloon floating away and replace them with more supportive, empowered, and loving thoughts. Remember those negative thoughts are just thoughts and can be shifted at anytime.

Let go of what no longer serves you.

This is a big one. When our lives are crowded with stuff that is not serving us there is little room for self-love. Clear the proverbial clutter. Ask yourself what habits are not supporting your well being? These could be poor eating habits, not exercising enough, or spending too much time on social media. It could even be continuing to engage with people in your life that drain you and who don’t honor your wishes or boundaries. It is incredibly self-honoring and a true act of self-love to let go of relationships and people who are not supportive of you or your life. Once you make room you can replace those things with healthy habits and even people that are a better fit.

Commit to take action in the direction of what gives you joy.

Follow your heart and your desires. These desires are clues that will lead you to love. Ask yourself what lights you up? Commit to doing more of those things. What are the things you can do that will be of service to others? When you are shining your light and are living in joy, you are truly embodying love. And when you are embodying love, it’s infectious and you are in fact sharing that love with the world which creates a ripple effect. And in this state, you are truly at service to helping others do the same. That is what it’s all about.

We hope you enjoyed our thoughts on self-love this month. Let us know your thoughts and what is one action you will take to cultivate a little more self-love today. We want to hear from you! Sending you all so much love today and always from your friends at Wake Foot Sanctuary. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
