Portrait of a Foot Soaker: Ashley Berger

In honor of our 6th Anniversary since we opened our doors, we wanted to do something a little different on the blog.  We wanted to do something that honors our guests and allows a sneak peek into the lives and their secrets to self-care. Our guests are truly what motivates us to continue our mission of customer service excellence! We want to show our appreciation by showcasing our guests that really take self-care to the next level and make it a priority in their lives. So for the month of May, we will be doing several Portraits of a Foot Soaker which will highlight some of our treasured guests and their routines, habits, and rituals of radical self-care.

This week we highlight Ashley!  Ashely is a food blogger and self-care warrior! She graces Wake with her presence regularly and has the work/life balance down to a T. We definitely learned a thing or two about how our special guest treats self care as a priority in her life.

What type of work do you do?

I am a Food Blogger at sweetpealifestyle.com. I also work part-time in a couple of other gigs.

What things do you do to try and maintain a work/life balance?

Planning ahead. I take my planner with me everywhere and have weekly planning sessions with myself. I spend 10-15 minutes each Sunday evening looking over the week: what three things am I focusing on, where do I need to be and when, and how all of these are helping me towards my goals. At the end of every month, I gather with friends and we review our Powersheets and express what worked for us, and where we could use a little encouragement. This sacred time together is super helpful for seeing that balancing work and life is a communal effort — I need other people in my life to help get me away from my desk, and out among the living!

Do you have any favorite activities to help relieve stress?

It sounds crazy to a lot of people, but hosting a dinner party is a MAJOR stress reliever for me. I love cooking, and cooking for my family and friends is how I unwind. Which is why I share my love of entertaining on my blog!

Who in your circle do you go to when you have a bad day? How do they make you feel better?

I have a tribe of women who are my go-to peeps. They will encourage me when I need it, call me out when necessary, and help keep me accountable to my life’s values and goals.

What is your guilty pleasure for me-time?

I tell people all the time, “My not guilty pleasure is going to Wake Foot Sanctuary.” Walking into Wake, and feeling the immediate calm presence the entire store exudes is so refreshing. I refuse to feel guilty about self care. While this sounds harsh, women are expected to be all things to all people all the time… And, if you don’t prioritize yourself, you won’t move forward in anything. So, when I’m feeling angst or just need an hour to myself, Wake is my go-to place, no guilt!

Are there any spots around town that you find yourself drawn to when you need a mental break?

The Parkway for a leisurely scenic drive. I also love to grab a drink and watch people! People watching in Asheville is absolutely amazing. 😉

What is your idea of the ultimate self-care ritual (either something you currently practice or a fantasy)?

I am a firm believer in a good skincare routine, which turns into a daily self-care ritual! When you take time out of your day to begin and end focusing on yourself, self-care becomes a habit. No matter how early I wake up, or how late I get in I never skip my skincare routine. The 20-minute ritual helps me begin and end my day without a screen, by just being patient. It’s a good time to just breathe and focus on my upcoming day, and reflect on the day’s end.

Thank you, Ashley, for your continued support of Wake Foot Sanctuary and for letting our guests have a glimpse into your life. We appreciate all our guests and look forward to featuring another portrait of another guest next week.
